Should letting agents have to be covered by an Ombudsman?

I absolutely think they should yes.

Why on earth wouldn't there be a overseeing authority on an industry such as ours that is so open to abuse. Given the legal implications of being either a landlord or in fact a tenant, I am surprised that this hasn't been a prerequisite before now.

I've read quite a lot of the debate around this but I just don't see the issue myself. If you are conducting yourself in the proper manner, there should be no reason why you wouldn't want to offer a right of re-address in a dispute. Being credible in an already much targeted industry would seem to be to be a positive move. I realise that ombudsman subscription wouldn't necessarily ensure all agents behave in a credible manner but it has to be a step in the right direction?

What are your thoughts?
